In the MobiLab real-world laboratory, the University of Stuttgart is researching sustainable, intelligent mobility on its campus in Vaihingen and is aiming for climate-neutral traffic on campus by 2035. Various bicycle parking systems are also being tested as part of this research project. We have developed a covered, compact “CityRack” for 18 bicycles and were allowed to install two of these prototypes on the campus in Stuttgart in July 2025.
The CityRack can be set up almost anywhere without foundations and impresses with its lightweight design and high flexibility.
The Koblenz University of Applied Sciences research pavilion was erected on the Zentralplatz in Koblenz on May 28, 2025, where it will provide shade for three months as a temporary building. Under the patronage of Mayor David Langner, he and Professor Dr. Karl Stoffel, President of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, opened the innovative structure. The convertible membrane roof, covering an area of 130 sqm, can be opened or folded up at the touch of a button; the research aims to provide effective cooling in urban areas.
At the Hotel Lamée in Vienna’s 1st district, we were able to accompany the realization of our plans for the membrane roofing of the roof terrace. Since summer 2024, the elegant Rooftop Lamée, providing a stunning view over Vienna’s historical centre, has been equipped with two elliptical, convertible membranes made of PTFE fabric, protecting against the weather if required. The retractable roofs can be spanned or folded up at the touch of a button in just a few minutes.
The research project “Convertible membranes for the city” was presented with the 2023 Award by the R56+ economic development agency. The project deals with the possibilities of mitigating the “Urban Heat Island Effect” and counteracting the climate-related heating of our cities with intelligently controlled, convertible membrane roofs. The ceremony took place on September 14, 2023 in the Sayner Hütte, and the award comes with prize money of 20,000 euros.
